Facebook & Instagram Shops · Meta catalogue

Check your product image before it goes into your Meta catalogue.

Catalogue images feed your Shop and your catalogue ads. Drop the image to see what Meta requires, what it recommends, and where your photo stands — each rule linked to Meta's own page.

What the rules say

From Meta's product image specifications for catalogues. Each one is a rule we check.

Required

  • The actual product. Images must accurately represent the specific item for sale — no “image coming soon” placeholders, logos or illustrations.
  • 500 × 500 px or more. Shops on Facebook and Instagram need at least 500 × 500 pixels.
  • JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Larger files are rejected by the catalogue.

Recommended

  • 1024 × 1024 px. The size Meta recommends for sharp Shops images.
  • Square, or 4:5. Shops show images 1:1; carousel ads adjust images unless they all share 1:1 or 4:5.
  • White backdrop. Meta recommends a white backdrop for the main product image.
  • No text, promo codes or watermarks. Nothing over the product: calls to action, temporary price drops, watermarks.
  • The entire product. The main image should be clear and show the whole product.

Selling on more than one channel?

From any report, re-check the same photo for Google Shopping, Amazon, Shopify or Etsy in one click — and the export pack gives you the photo sized for each, including Instagram's 4:5. For posts and ads rather than catalogue images, try the post & ad review.
