AI product photos
Using AI product photos on Amazon
Amazon doesn't ban AI-made images outright. Its product image guide asks that the main image accurately represent the product as a realistic, professional-quality image — real scale, quantity and colour — and that images with photorealistic AI-generated people carry a disclosure tag.
Tagging AI-generated people
Amazon asks you to add the keyword contains-synthetic-performer to the image's XMP metadata (the dc:subject field) before uploading, so it can show shoppers a disclosure where required.
Tag it when
- · The image shows a photorealistic person who was generated entirely by AI — not based on a real person.
Don't tag it when
- · The people are real, even if they were retouched or edited with AI tools.
- · The people are characters from films, games or other creative works.
- · The people are not photorealistic — drawn, cartoon-like, stylised.
- · There are no people in the image.
How to add the tag
Any IPTC/XMP-capable editor works (Lightroom and Bridge call it Keywords). From the command line, with the free ExifTool:
exiftool -XMP-dc:Subject+=contains-synthetic-performer photo.jpg
Our check reads the file's own metadata and tells you whether the tag is there. Re-saving an image in some tools strips metadata — check the final file.
